The Big SNAP 2017 round up

My parents visited, bringing with them a photo album from my childhood - it contained 65 polaroids I'd taken in 1974/75.  Last year my brother died. This is a photo I took of David with Mum & Dad in 1974. This is the best photo from last year that I possess - Andrew Billington

Happy New Year!  We're kicking off our 2018 with a look back at 2017 both through some of the things we got up to and also through the work of our community.   We asked our community group and Facebook page to share a shot they're proud of, along with their reasons.  You'll find a selection of our favourites below along with some of the things we got up to in 2018 and links to our most popular blog posts.

"My daughter and her best mates in the summer holidays. They all have a print of this. Dirty, tired, full of energy. I do hope they remember what a great day we all had"  Kelly at Paul Joseph Photography

2017 was another exciting year for us.  SNAP number 3 happened in April and it was one of our favourites so far.  You can see our write up, along with pictures by Voytek London Wedding Photographer in this post.  Our epic film below is by Cinematic Tide.

In 2017 we announced our plans for SNAP 2018 and the fact that we were doing things a little differently this year.  We want to continue to build our amazing community and nine of our 2018 speakers are people who are already a part of our community.  We're so happy to be able to promote from within and to celebrate the amazing talent of our attendees.

We also announced our SNAP Aspiring Speaker scholarship and after an indepth selection process we'll be formally announcing our winner shortly!

This is a friend of mine. She’s one of the most fiercely individual humans I have ever known. I feel so lucky to have her trust and her time. The last time we worked together, she teasingly asked “can I be your muse? I’ve always wanted to be someone’s muse". She’s totally my muse. ❤️"   www.chriswojdak.com

"I think this is basically an impossible task BUT this one is up there, if not just for the image but the experience of meeting Jeremy Corbyn and the atmosphere of the event, plus its the first image I've ever sold to the national press (and it gave me the opportunity to tell the Daily Fail to F off and shove their offer up their you know what"   Shelly Richmond

As always we're proud to focus heavily on the welfare of our attendees and creating a supportive and inclusive environment.  Alongside our existing learning manifesto and community standards, we announced a raft of measures to make SNAP more welcoming in 2018.

"I've been trying to get more creative with my storytelling this year by using different composition techniques such as layering (an awesome tool for showing more of the story in a single frame). At the same time not loosing what's most important for me - the moment. I love this photo because I feel it captures what i was trying to achieve - layering, storytelling and a beautiful energy filled moment. I look forward to playing more with such techniques in 2018" -  https://www.mattbadenoch.com/

"This one of my daughter Olivia in Costa Rica. Just the two of us went there last January, our first big adventure together. I love this shot of her playing castaway at Playa Pelada. She was having more fun than her expression here suggests.." Schriver Photo

"Last January I was getting to grips with and improving my off camera flash so when I saw it was snowing I grabbed my camera, speedlight and triggers and the closest person (mum) and did this super quick shot. I love the snow flakes, the droplets on the lens doing lovely bokeh stuff, but mostly I love her beaming smile - ever supportive, ever proud. I wouldn't be where I am today without her and my dad. They're awesome and I love them"   Elyse Marks

"This was my very last photo of the day. The cake area was badly lit and after I asked the wedding guests for help with bringing light to the cake I had the idea for using the same people in creating an intimate moment. The next few minutes were absolutely hilarious, with everyone laughing and having no idea what I was doing. Today I know it's one of the couples faves exactly for the moment we created with everyone and the final result"  www.luisastarling.com

In 2017 we launched our new one day business workshop.  SNAP Business Sessions are a whistle stop tour through everything needed to run a successful creative business.  If you'd like a business session near you drop us a line!

I'm not sure why I like this image so much, normally it's obvious why I might enjoy one photo over all the overs. This one, just makes me stop and look a little longer. I photographed it at the end of the Summer at Hitchin Lavender in the Sunflower fields. I don't seem to tire of looking *into* it. I guess that's what I hope for in each wedding I photograph, that some images do exactly that to anyone who looks or has a connection with them.   www.sharoncooper.co.uk

Finally, we still have a small number of spaces at SNAP 2018.  If you'd like to become a SNAPster we'd love to meet you.

As always SNAP would be nothing without our brilliant partners.  We welcomed Fujifilm to the SNAP family in 2017 and we're continuing to work closely with QT Albums.  Thanks also to all of our sponsors and supporters who helped to make SNAP happen.
