Before we tell you about this year's SNAP's Got Talent competition, it's only right that we take the opportunity to announce our SUMMIT's Got Talent winner!  SUMMIT is a one day wedding photography event that we host with Rock Your Shot and we opened our our SUMMIT's Got Talent competition to both the SNAP and Rock Your Shot communities.

We're really excited to tell you that the winner is both a SNAPster and Rock Your Shot-er!  Congratulations Shelley Richmond.  We can't wait to hear her talk about her process for shooting editorial portraits at SUMMIT in November and you can check out some of her beautiful images, including images from her self portrait project, illustrating this post.

We still have a few SUMMIT tickets available so head over to the shop if you'd like to hear Shelley speak alongside the likes of Jonas Peterson, Nessa K, Sam Hurd, Daniel Aguilar and a whole load more!

So on to SNAP's Got Talent.  For those who don't know our community is everything to us here at SNAP and we decided after our inaugural event that supporting our community to grow in between SNAP events is a huge priority for us.  Because of this we decided that we wanted to add at least one former SNAP attendee to our line up each year.

In actual fact we'll have 4 former attendees speaking at 2017 and we're really proud of the fact that we promote from within our community.  While three of our former attendee speakers are experienced educators or workshop leaders already (swing by our Facebook Page to see full line up!) the fourth place will be given to someone who's brand new to speaking.

The competition is open to anyone who's a former SNAP attendee and to enter you just need to do the following:

 - complete our speaker proposal form
- Be prepared to give a 30 minute, condensed version of your talk at the 2016 SNAP Reunion

The winner will be decided by the SNAP community, who'll vote for their favourite talk on the day.

Workshops can be about anything at all.  You'll have the best chance of winning if the workshop is related to photography, creativity or business but we want SNAP's Got Talent to be fun too so if you want to deliver a totally off the wall workshop for the enjoyment of our Reunion attendees, we wholeheartedly encourage you to do so.

The winner of SNAP's Got Talent will be offered a 1 - 2 hour speaking slot at SNAP 2016 and will also receive

- A complimentary ticket to SNAP 2017
- A spotlight feature on the SNAP website
- A speaker listing on the SNAP website
- Publicity in all promotional material

The SNAP Reunion takes place on the 2nd and 3rd November 2016, in Buxton and you can grab your ticket here if you haven't already.

Our 2015 winner, the amazing Alex James, had this to say about winning and speaking at SNAP this year:

" Taking a workshop was not something I'd really thought about. I mean anyone and everyone seems to be running workshops these days. So when I was encouraged to enter SNAP Photography Festival’s “SNAP’S GOT TALENT” contest.... I was a little reluctant. Not least because I didn't feel that I would have anything to offer. Teaching granny to suck eggs comes to mind.

After much deliberation I went for it, choosing to focus on the stuff that I think really matters. After giving a mini talk in the Lake District, it was a massive surprise for me to find out that I had been chosen for the slot at SNAP’s main event in South Wales. This is one of the biggest photography educational events out there, which has been sending huge ripples through the industry, not least because of its positivity and defined learning outcomes. So to be a part of it and share the stage with some of my biggest photography inspirations was a little mind blowing and totally surreal.

I think it went ok on the day (you'll have to check with those who listened to it) but I had some wonderful feedback. The whole experience was totally positive for me and has led to some other speaking opportunities, as well as the possibility of me conducting my own workshops in the future. So if anyone is thinking about giving it a blast..... I can highly recommend it. There is nothing to lose and everything to gain. SNAPS GOT TALENT could be just what you need. "
